Food Technology
Food Technology at The Sandon School will enhance students’ knowledge, understanding and skills required for them to cook safely and independently. They will be able to apply the principles of food science, nutrition, and healthy eating into their day to day lives. This subject is a key life skill and essential for every young person.
Our curriculum will encourage students to feel confident to cook meals from scratch, with a scheme of work that increasingly challenges each student as they go through Years 7 to 9, stretching and challenging those who are more capable. Discussions on healthy eating and balanced diets will also encourage students to make informed decisions on their own food choices and eating habits, now and in the future. We also integrate teaching of other cultures and lifestyles, and increase awareness of sustainability, food waste and seasonal eating.
The foundations at key stage 3 link to the Food Preparation and Nutrition course available at GCSE, which prepare students for a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways.
