The Sandon School

Health & Social Care

Statement of Intent

The Health and Social Care curriculum aims to provide students with an accessible course that assesses them through both controlled assessment and examination. The chosen Health and Social Care course assesses students at both level 1 and 2 which allows mixed ability students to access every aspect of the course.

Schemes of work allow teachers to support students to complete examination units and controlled assessments including the skills necessary to adapt to both formats. The order of content and delivery for the course is derived from the specification and release dates for controlled assessments. However, consideration is taken to ensure that students have ample opportunity to complete assessments and take examinations out of their normal examination period.

KS4

Students are introduced to Health and Social Care by looking at how we develop over our lifespan.  They then build upon this knowledge to apply their understanding to the wider Health and Social Care context. Students utilise the skills through role play and report style assessments. In the second year of study students are able to apply work covered previously to complete a synoptic examination that incorporates elements from all Year 10 work.
